Road safety lessons (VKU)

VKU in Zurich

Traffic instruction (VKU) at DriveUp driving school

Compulsory road safety instruction (VKU) is an important part of driver training and a crucial step on the way to obtaining a driver’s license. The VKU not only teaches theoretical knowledge about road traffic, but also trains learner drivers to correctly assess and master typical traffic situations. Especially in a complex and densely populated area like Zurich, it is crucial that learner drivers develop a feel for traffic at an early stage and learn how to act safely and with foresight.

Objectives of road safety education (VKU):

Typische und wiederkehrende Verkehrssituationen erkennen:

Participants learn to identify relevant situations in road traffic and to react appropriately. This includes crosswalks, intersections, traffic lights and behavior towards other road users

Schärfung des Verkehrssinns und Entwicklung eines Gefahrenbewusstseins:

An important part of VKU is to train traffic awareness and develop a feeling for potential dangers on the road. This helps to recognize critical situations at an early stage and act accordingly.

Verhaltensmuster für verschiedene Situationen erarbeiten:

During the lessons, practical rules of conduct for various traffic situations are developed. The learner drivers learn how to act correctly and responsibly in different situations – be it when giving way, at traffic circles or when dealing with pedestrians and cyclists.

Vermeidung kritischer Verkehrssituationen:

Through the VKU, learner drivers not only learn how to react to critical situations, but above all how to avoid them by driving with foresight and correctly assessing the traffic situation.

Einführung des VKUs

Compulsory road safety instruction was introduced in 1991 to improve road safety in the long term. Since then, VKU has been an integral part of driving license training in Switzerland. Attendance is compulsory before the practical driving test can be taken. The course comprises a total of 8 lessons of 50 minutes each, spread over two days.

Standort & Ablauf

The VKU at the DriveUp driving school is offered at our centrally located site in Zurich, which is easily accessible both by car and by public transport. This enables our learner drivers to attend the course conveniently without having to travel long distances.
